The PPA Brand Model was designed for trackable brand differentiation and relevance. PPA stands for Promise, Pillars, and Attributes. Promise to the client, the purpose of the brand is to fulfill that promise Pillars: The Brand performs differently across the territories it lives in, it can even have different competitors in each territory Attributes are divided into Keywords and visual features that make a brand tangible and relevant. We designed the brand tracking model with differentiation, relevance, and trackability in mind because we have seen that symbiotic brands outperform predatory brands on social media because they understand the value of human-centric storytelling. This model is intended to help other Brands walk in the same direction and successfully capture people's attention, love and loyalty.
Competitors' brands represent the companies that are in your same industry or category. In other words, competitors are the brands that potentially share the same audience with you and compete for the same customers. On the other hand, Benchmark brands are those who you admire for their brand storytelling and social media presence. It doesn't matter if the brand is in your industry or category.
Share of Voice shows you the post frequency for each brand relative to the entire category. For example: If Brand A posts 1 time and all the other brands in the category post a total of 9 times, Brand A’s share of Voice would be 10% (10 total posts divided by 1 post by Brand A).
Share of Engagement shows you the engagement for each brand relative to the entire category. For example: If Brand A has a total engagement score of 1 and all the other brands in the category summed up have a total engagement score of 9, Brand A’s share of Engagement would be 10% (10 total engagement score divided by engagement score 1 by Brand A).
The DEI Index is measured in much the same way as the above Brand Love, with the exception that we are only evaluating DE&I-related content. Using these two key metrics (Brand Love + DE&I Index), we can understand a brand's holistic positioning.
Brand Love provides a high-level view of how attractive each brand is for the category's audience. This daily metric tracks brand performance by accounting for post volume, post interactions, and comment sentiment, and incorporates a lookback period of several weeks.
A good Brand Love Score would depend on the competitors and benchmark brands you have selected to track since BLS would be calculated for the audience in your category. It is important to keep an eye on your competition to improve your game, and in your benchmarks to learn from the best.
The Average Engagement per Post shows the total engagement divided by the total number of posts in the calculation. This metric would vary depending on the filters you have applied to the dashboards or visuals.

Pillars are the territories/topics where you want to position your brand. You can define Pillars by using keywords related to your brand in that topic. For instance, if the pillar is Innovation then its keywords could be tech, scientific, study, expert, new, or AI. Once you have defined the Pillars and keywords then the system would collect data related to your brand, so it can give you insights to improve your brand on those pillars. Ink Lantern can provide a set of predefined pillars and keywords for your industry or category that you can edit.
